Short: SpeechToy in JForth Author: mikeh@starnine.com (Mike Haas) Uploader: mikeh starnine com (Mike Haas) Type: misc/antiq Architecture: m68k-amigaos SpeechToy was initially released in 1985. To this day, it is the only program I know of that uses the mouth values returned by the narrator device. For what? Well, for those that have never seen it, it not only "speaks" in famous Amiga style, but also presents a face with a moving mouth! This is a new SpeechToy, ported to JForth, and incorporates 2.0+ style shaded gadgets and colors, and a new feature, a LOOP button, permitting repetative narration. Also, I fixed some bugs in the original 1985 C source (which is included). As I ported this program, I discovered a Commodore include file bug that introduced incompatibility in the use of the narrator mouth values between 1.3 and 2.0+. Details, as well as a workaround, are presented. This SpeechToy will work fine under any OS version. The package includes executable and JForth source, as well as a corrected version of the original 1985 C source (for those who might like to compare the two).
