A nice modeling and rendering job of the locomotive! However, the lighting
and scene needs some work. Also, while the subject is an engineering feat,
the presentation isn't especially original, nor does it stress the
engineering achievement aspect of the subject.

Still, the locomotive is very nicely done!

I love trains... the train is GREAT! The scenery is YUK.

Nicely done, though the "late afternoon" sun gives away how out of scale those
background hills are, from the shadow of the engine being cast onto them. From
the angles of the shadows, it also looks like your light source might have been
a tad too close to the actual scene objects. Overall, great job of modelling
and texturing the locomotive.

From beliaev@utu.fi:

Nice model, but textures and colors need more work: it looks like a plastic
toy.

From chipr@niestu.com:
The level of detail and realism of the train is extremely high. The only
thing that spoils this image is the ground--too smooth and artificial
looking. And perhaps the barrels. The engine is wonderful, even the smoke
looks real. Give some texture and distance to the ground and you'll have a
top quality image.

From gmccarter@hotmail.com:
Wonderfully detailed model and props, but they become cartoonish
when placed against such a simple landscape.

From arcana@sinbad.net:
Some of the textures are really great, while others need work. The lighting
gives
the impression of being indoors with a spotlight, rather than outdoors.
Overall,
though, it's a very nice image. :{)

The shadows cast on the backround could be avoided using distance fading.

=====
From ethelm@bigfoot.com:
Nicely constructed engine.
The surroundings look like an afterthought.
We think that the main thing that detracts from the
image is the stark frontal lighting.

From jaime@ctav.es:
Very nice and detailed but, hmmm... the train casts shadows on the distant
mountains?

From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de:
Quite detailed model, but the lighting is very boring. Place the light farther
away from the camera.
The background could use a little detail.

From lpurple@netcom.com:
The world around the locomotive could use some more work; but the
modelling of the locomotive itself is excellent. The steam is esp. realistic.

Killer textures, great csg and detail. Realistic smoke. Good lighting and
scene design. Can't find any nits worth picking.
