Modeling, rendering, and scene composition are all very nicely done!
The only reason the "concept..." score isn't higher is that the scene
doesn't really stress the theme of engineering; other images in the
contest would, for example, look better on an engineering textbook
cover. However, overall I think it is very nicely done piece of work.
I especially like the viewpoint. The man is a very nice touch! It
adds nicely to the scale. There is room for improvement,
perhaps, in texturing, however.

Excellent model. It includes all the things that make a good POV picture.
Textures/colors are well chosen, and there are features that give the
viewer the scale of the objects, specifically, the figure and the railings.
The only improvement might be the addition of layered textures that give
more depth to the large bulky objects in the scene.

I remember reading about the Palomar Observatory in that same "Life Nature Library" series...this telescope was certainly a great engineering achievement! And you've rendered it beautifully too. I like how there's the barely-noticeable figure of a man in the background to give an idea of the real-world scale of the telescope.

Very nice image, excellent textures, good sense of scale. I used to live near
Palomar, and visited it quite often. Very authentic scene!

Still not sure I understand the structure/mechanism at Palomar.
I would like to see this animated, and watch it move.
But impressive nevertheless. Outstanding lighting -- adds drama.
Human figure is great for showing the scale of the scene.

A friend had shown me a picture of CFT in Hawai a few weeks before I saw your picture. Very realistic, and nice lighting.

Don't worry too much about details being correct, the overall image is very
nice and looks convincing.

Very nice modelling; only flaw is the mach banding around the blue spotlight.

Nice painstaking csg work. the person in the background lends a good sense of scale. The dome grid works well.
