TITLE: The Nisqually Valley School COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: none RENDERER USED: POVray 3 for Windows TOOLS USED: POVcad, PC Paintbrush RENDER TIME: 4hrs + HARDWARE USED: 486/66 DX IMAGE DESCRIPTION: An image of the Nisqually Valley School, restored, sitting near a small stand of cotton-wood trees and some daffodils. The school house is a clasic two room structure that has fallen into disrepair and is being used as a residence here in Washington State. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The school house is a complex CSG shape. The roof, windows, and door are added on to the union representing the school. The planking for the siding is differenced off of the walls... I experimented with using normals to simulate this, and while they did a fair job they appeared a bit off from the low viewing angle I wanted (to be near the daffodils). The daffodils are made with a generalized daffodil include file that I created, and randomized by passing a seed value. The .inc file is included in the zip with the school. Basically the flowers are formed of scaled blob components rotated by a #while loop. The leaves are spiraled by a #while loop as well, and the whole relies heavily on random numbers to make each flower a bit different. The grass was originally done with randomly rotated triangles, which produced a nice looking grass, but unfortuately used up all of my system memory, in order to fit in the school and daffodils I switched to long skinny polygon rectangles with striped green/clear textures.
