TITLE: Globe City COUNTRY: The Netherlands WEBPAGE: none RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.1e TOOLS USED: Moray 3.1 (Lutz+Kretschmar GbR); Terrain Maker RENDER TIME: 9 hours HARDWARE USED: Compaq Presario/Pentium1, Windows98(tests of elements), and Dell/Pentium2, WindowsNT (final rendering) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: On a distant, nameless planet with three moons, the famous architect Xy, presents the completion of the first Globe City for the new colonists, freshly arrived from Zyx. Yx, the expedition's commander is stunned. "Unbelievable!" he cries out as he discovers the city from the viewing platform for the first time. "How did you do that? How do you make those energy units orbit the city? I never saw such a thing in my life, by Xyz!" The architect looks smug. "That's the secret of my trade", he purrs. "They will orbit forever, at least till the sun goes nova. In the meantime, the settlers will have plenty of energy. You may inform the Emperor - may he live till the heat death of the universe - that the way is now open for colonizing the galaxy. Overpopulation is history from now on." The original idea of the Globe City was inspired by the cover from the book "Best SF Stories of New Worlds 3", edited by Michael Moorcock and published as paperback by Medallion Books, New York, in 1971. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The scene was created in MORAY 3.1 and rendered in POV-Ray 3.1e. The landscape was made with Terrain Maker. The scene makes use of a Scattering Media. The figures were also created in MORAY 3.1, using the Inverse Kinematic features of the program.
