TITLE: Cassini Rendezvous with Saturn COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://www.bizzarocreations.com/ RENDERER USED: Povray for Windows 3.1 TOOLS USED: TrueSpace 5, Moray, 3Dwin File Coverter. RENDER TIME: Aproximately 7 hours HARDWARE USED: Celeron 600/128MB ram, ATI all-in-wonder graphics card. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Cassini-Huygens spacecraft in orbit around Saturn. Scheduled Saturn orbit insertion; July 2004. The grainy appearance of the metallic surface of the spacecraft is probably due to the reflection of "particles" (high crand value) in Saturn's rings. The constellation Orion is partially visible in the lower right-hand corner. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The spacecraft was modeled in TrueSpace 5. The model was then exported from TrueSpace to .DXF. Screen shots of the model in progress can be seen at http://www.bizzarocreations.com/raytracing.html/ (bottom of page), it is fairly detailed. The model was converted to .MDL (Moray Modeler format) using Thomas Baier's 3DWin File Converter. http://www.tb-software.com/ Using Moray for Windows wireframe modeler for POVRAY (http://www.stmuc.com/moray/), I created the Saturn texture and its' rings texture. The two moons in the background are simple spheres with simple Povray textures. The starfield was created by image-mapping a couple different Nasa photos onto a Z plane (Y plane in Moray). Once I had created my Saturn system, I imported the Cassini .MDL into the scene, assigned colors and textures to the various elements of the model, did some arranging of the positions of all the objects in the scene to my liking, then rendered it with Povray for Win 3.1
