When the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) was formed in December 1997, it inherited the InterNIC database of existing IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs). It also inherited the responsibility to maintain the records in that database. These records became known as "early registrations". Discussions regarding early registrations took place among the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) and throughout their communities. These RIRs comprised the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC) and the RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC). A decision was made that the interests of the holders of these early registrations would be best served by managing the resources through the RIR appropriate to the region in which they reside. The so-called ERX Project was initiated to determine the RIR that should manage the resources for each early registration. This directory contains all completed early registration transfers that took place during the ERX Project. This project ended in April 2005. The lists in this directory still include those IP ranges that were transfered by the RIPE NCC to other RIRs after 2005.
